The Archbishop’s Palace (circa 1859) is a beautiful example of Federation Academic Classical style architecture and
is one of the oldest surviving Episcopal residences in Australia. Located adjacent to the recently restored St Mary’s
Cathedral, the four storey residence was near derelict before works commenced in 2009. The project included the
restoration of the building’s exterior including roof and boundary walls, construction of a new underground car park
and garden terrace, upgrading of the building’s interior including the complete replacement of all electrical and
hydraulic services, the installation of a new glass elevator and the introduction of mechanical services throughout the
building. The result is a beautiful and contemporary residence for the clergy who now reside there.
